The Northville Rush U13 Girls Swoosh team are champions!! The girls locked up the cross town Force FC Club Invitational Tournament in Bloomfield Hills, MI this weekend (September 21-23rd). In the opening game Saturday morning, the girls sparred with the Farmington Fusion team. Edging them out 2-1 on two beautifully timed scoring plays by Sofie Swiecki; the last one breaking the tie with only 2 minutes left in the game. The second match on Saturday moved indoors to the Pontiac Ultimate Sports arena, where we played against the Mentor Wave (Mentor, OH) club. This match pitted a high scoring Ohio squad against the blanketing defense of the Northville Rush Swoosh. The Rush Swoosh defense won out on this one. Thanks to an ill-timed shove by Mentor’s defense, inside their own 18 yard line, Serena Wang was granted a penalty shot, and perfectly placed the ball in the upper left corner. The score held up at 1-0, as it was a hard fought battle to keep the Mentors off the scoreboard. Game three ended up to be a 0-0 dual with the TNT Dynamite (Lansing, MI) team during a brisk 8 am Sunday match, clinching the bracket win. The Final was the toughest match yet, set up against a speedy and talented Pickering Power Gold (Ontario, Canada) team. The match was a see-saw battle with very few offensive challenges, highlighted by one play where the Pickering center-midfielder sped through 3 defenders up the middle, culminating in a breakaway inside the 18 yard line. Sydney Price came into the frame like a rocket from her RT Halfback position and perfectly executed a slide tackle just in the nick of time, saving a sure to be goal. After 2 OT periods, the eventual shootout concluded 3-2 with Serena Wang, Tate Robison, and Megan McHugh scoring their shots. Overall, it was a great team effort with everyone contributing to the division win. Congratulations U13 Northville Rush Girls!!
